The Var and the Alpes-Maritimes are most suitable for those who like to combine an active holiday with a beach holiday. There are large outstretched and unspoilt natural areas, ideal for long walks and many rivers for canoeing.
The many small roads along vineyards and lavender fields are truly breathtaking. The old Provencal towns are most characteristic and many of them are most definitely worth visiting.
The same goes for the many fine restaurants, golf courses and museums in this area. And not to forget are the wonderful beaches, cosy harbours and lively sea fronts. The opportunities are unprecedented.
Not many people are familiar with the outstretched natural areas just above Grasse (Clues de Haute Provence) and the Esterel mountains south of Cannes.
Between these outstretched natural areas and the coast you will find a charming landscape (such as Gorges du Loup), with wooded hills, fields of flowers and many Provencal villages with their narrow streets, ancient churches, fountains and picturesque town squares such as Valbonne, Saint-Paul-de-Vence, Tourettes-sur-Loup, Mougins en Biot. In the hinterland you will find orange and olive trees, beautiful mimosa and fields of flowers which are used for the perfume industry of Grasse.
In the winter you can ski on the near by situated mountains. Gréolières-les-Neiges is approx. 50 km from Cannes. Approx. 80 km from Nice are the famous ski areas Isola 2000 and Auron.
You can also play golf to your hearts content here. In the triangle, Grass, Cannes and Antibes alone, there are approx. 15 magnificent golf courses. And with 300 days of sunshine per year, this is one of the most attractive golf destinations in Europe. One of the most beautiful golf courses is that of Opio-Valbonne.
For children there are also plenty of activities in this wonderful part of France. There is the Marineland in Antibes.
