This is the heart of the Provence. The Rhone valley, the mountainous Haut Vaucluse, the Alps and the Mont Ventoux and the Luberon shape the borders of the Vaucluse.
Most distinguishing are the lively markets and the fast flowing rivers, the yellow ochre rocks and the vine fields. Here you will also find Roman remains in Orange, Avignon and Vaison-La-Romaine and of course in the many smaller medieval villages.
Numerous wine routes will take you along yellow coloured villages with fountains and town squares such as Beaumes-de-Venise, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas and Segueret.
The natural park in the Luberon is most impressive with lavender fields, cedars and pine trees, herbs and vine fields and the rugged mountains of the Grand Luberon. Here you will also find many beautiful mountain villages.
Towns in the Luberon worth visiting are Apt, Bonnieux, Lourmarin and Menerbes. The Luberon is also known as the land of the castles.
